King Island is located in the west of Bass Strait, half way between Victoria and Tasmania. It is approximately a 45 minute flight from either State. The population of our whole island is about 1,700.
Our school is in the main town of Currie and has students from Kindergarten to Year 12. Our numbers at school are around 200.
King Island has a warm, moderate climate. In summer we can get up to 30oC degrees, in winter it can go down to about 12oC, but that doesn't stop us getting down to the beaches in winter!
In summer we (students) just about live at the beaches and in the ocean, whether we are fishing, surfing, body-boarding, swimming or even sun baking. As you can always "catch a wave" on one side of the Island, we have had International Surfing Champions visit! Many of the beaches are empty, so if you enjoy long walks, the only foot prints on the sand will be your own! We not only spend time at the beaches, we do many things like camping, boating, horse riding, hobbies or even just bush walking.

The wild-life on King Island is spectacular. There are wild wallaby-kangaroos, possums, pheasants, turkeys and peacocks regularly walking on or across the roads! The lagoons are home to swans, ducks and abundant animals. The bird-life is massive! There is a fairy penguin population that's growing huge and they don't seem to mind people visiting them for "a look" just after sunset. Mutton birds breed in the rookeries, migrate around the world and come back each year. The fishing is fantastic. Apart from the lucrative abalone and crayfish industries, there are easy catches of all fish for anyone who wants to "throw a line".

There are beautiful scenic spots on the Island. Places like City of Melbourne Bay and Yarra Creek Gorge attract tourists and the "Petrified Forest" and Seal Rocks are of huge interests to visitors to our Island. King Island produces some of the finest foods in the world like KI Cheese, Cray Fish, Fish, KI Beef, honey and pepper.
Come and visit us sometime!
